Two-Year Forest Management Operating Plan

Two men review a large map spread out on a table in an office, with one pointing at the map and the other looking on, while discussing the map.

The Forest Management Operating Plan (FMOP) is a requirement of the Forest Management Licence Agreement and The Manitoba Forest Act and is submitted to the Government of Manitoba for approval. Preparation of the FMOP is guided by Manitoba’s Submission Guidelines for Forest Management Operating Plans (Manitoba Sustainable Development, 2015).

The FMOP provides a three‑year projection of forest management activities within the Forest Management Licence Area (FMLA). It includes detailed information on wood supply, access development, harvesting, and forest renewal activities planned for the upcoming two years. Contingency areas are also identified to ensure sufficient harvest opportunities are available should planned operations be disrupted by weather conditions or other unforeseen circumstances.

Following approval of the FMOP, and prior to the commencement of any activities within the FMLA, work permit applications are submitted to the Province for each planned operation. These applications outline the site‑specific details of the proposed activities.

Public Engagement - Forest Management Planning

NFMC recognizes that meaningful information sharing with Indigenous communities, the public, and user groups is a vital component of effective forest management planning. To support this, the Company has developed and continues to refine both formal and informal engagement approaches that reflect community values and address site‑specific interests and concerns raised by individuals and groups.
