Responsible Environmental Leadership

Committed to environmental stewardship today, for the benefit of generations to come.

Environmental Commitment

NFMC is committed at all levels of the organization to protecting the environment for the benefit of present and future generations. We achieve this commitment through responsible practices, continuous improvement, and transparent engagement.

We uphold this commitment by:

  • Monitoring our environmental performance through internal programs and external audits, and taking corrective action as part of an ongoing continual improvement process

  • Complying with all applicable legislation, regulations, and standards, as well as any voluntary commitments we undertake

  • Managing our operations to minimize pollution, reduce waste, and use resources efficiently

  • Practicing sustainable forest management in accordance with our Sustainable Forest Management (SFM) Policy

  • Communicating our environmental performance openly with employees, the public, and other stakeholders

  • Encouraging and recognizing employees for their contributions to improving environmental performance

Sustainable Forest Management Plan

Third-party forest management certification complements Canada’s comprehensive and rigorous forest management laws and regulations. It provides added assurance that a forest company is operating legally, sustainably and in compliance with world-recognized standards for sustainable forest management.

Sustainable Forest Management Committee

The Sustainable Forest Management Committee (SFMC) has been established to serve as the Public Advisory Committee for the CSA-SFM certification and as the Forest Resource Advisory Committee as outlined in the Forest Management License Agreement. It is an ongoing forum where representatives from across the FMLA can share knowledge, interests, views, values and concerns with respect to forest management activities. This forum is intended to allow for open, fair and orderly discussion on these matters. The SFMC includes representatives from a broad cross-section of stakeholders across the FMLA.

Currently the committee meets several times per year. Membership is open to Indigenous Peoples, communities, general public and organizations.

For more information or to join the committee contact Jeanne Besaw at (204) 623-8453 or Jeanne.Besaw@niso.ca.
